Cookie policy

The small amount of browser storage KORD uses, what it's for, and your choices.

Keeping this simple

Some websites use cookies and similar browser storage to run properly and to track you across the web. KORD's use is on the modest end: we use what's needed to make the site work and keep it secure, and we don't want to track you around the internet. This policy explains, plainly, what we use and why. It's provided by KORD Ltd, New Zealand.

This is a plain-language starting point and should be reviewed by a legal professional before you rely on it as your final published policy.

What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small piece of data a website stores in your browser, and there are related technologies that do similar things. They let a site remember information between pages and visits — without some of them, basic things like keeping items in a cart wouldn't work. They can also be used for analytics and advertising, which is the part people rightly care about.

What we use

  • Essential storage — the storage needed for the site to function: keeping your cart, letting you move through checkout, and keeping your session secure. The site can't work properly without this, so it isn't optional.
  • Security and integrity — limited storage and records used to keep the site secure and to prevent misuse, such as protecting the code and checkout system from abuse.

We keep this to what the store genuinely needs to run. Where we use anything beyond the essentials, we'll be clear about it.

What we try to avoid

We're not interested in following you around the web for advertising. Our aim is a store that works and respects you, not one that quietly builds a profile of your browsing. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy and make any non-essential storage a clear choice rather than a default.

Your choices

You can control cookies through your browser settings — most browsers let you view, block or delete them. Bear in mind that blocking essential storage will stop parts of the site from working, including your cart and checkout, since those genuinely rely on it. That's a function of how the web works, not a trick on our part.

Changes

If we change how we use cookies or browser storage, we'll update this page. The version here reflects our current practice.

Managing cookies yourself

You're always in control of cookies through your own browser, and every major browser lets you view, block or delete them in its settings, as well as browse privately. The one caveat is that blocking essential storage will stop parts of kord.nz from working — your cart and checkout genuinely rely on it — so if the site starts behaving oddly after you've cleared or blocked storage, that's usually why. That's a function of how the web works rather than anything unusual on our part. If you'd like to reduce tracking generally, browser privacy settings and private windows are the main tools, and they apply across every site you visit, not just ours. Since we deliberately keep our own use to the essentials and don't set out to follow you around the web for advertising, there's little to opt out of here — but the controls are yours to use however you prefer.
